Is it true that “No added sugar” on a product’s label means that it contains no sugar?

No, this is not true. This indication is only to inform us that a certain product does not contain any added sugar or corn syrup. Also, it is common to find such wording on the labels of various products, such as certain drinks or juices, on yogurt, jams, etc. And so, this indication does not include sugars that are contained naturally in a product and which must be considered as part of our daily food plan. Although a certain juice is labeled as a “No added sugar” type, for example, it naturally contains fructose (fruit sugar). This goes as well to yogurt which naturally contains lactose (milk sugar). For this reason, it is essential that we read the nutritional values on the label of a product so that to discern its contents in sugar, fat and others. By doing so, we would be certain that we know exactly what we’re consuming.
