To live longer and healthier: eat raw almonds, walnuts or peanuts

Just a few days ago, a study conducted by Dutch researchers has been published in the scientific journal “International Journal of Epidemiology” and has revealed that a daily consumption of some 10 to 15 grams of almonds, walnuts or peanuts, which we should consume raw and unprocessed, would reduce by an average of 23% the risk of mortality due to diabetes and respiratory and neurodegenerative diseases. This study, which lasted for 10 years, was conducted on a group of 120000 Dutch people, aged between 55 and 69.

Given that these 3 types of foods are rich in vitamins, fibres and antioxidants, their consumption immediately after their extraction from their shells would be a positive habit to acquire in order to ensure a healthier life. The said study states that the daily consumption of half a handful (between 10 and 15 grams) of these foods would decrease by 30% the risk of diabetes and by 39% and 45% respectively the risk of respiratory and neurodegenerative diseases. Also, the study points out that it is not necessary to consume a higher quantity per day as this will not have any additional beneficial effect on our health. Moreover, such benefits are only associated with the consumption of these foods in their raw state and not after they have been grilled, fried and/or salted.

Caution! The study also states that this conclusion is not to be taken into account by people that are allergic to such foods; a thing which is quite logical of course.
