8 tips for choosing the best smoked salmon!

Festive days are almost here, and you probably plan to buy sliced smoked salmon which is packed in plastic. But how could you make sure that you’re buying the best choice available? Here are 8 tips that will be helpful for you:

1- The salmon should be bright and not oily; its color should not be very striking since this may be the sign of the presence of dye.

2- Its color should be uniform (this is the sign of a salmon that has been well fed).

3- Choose the large slices that contain spaced ribs as this corresponds to the front part (= the softest) of a well-developed salmon.

4- Slices should not present brown spots and their edges should not be darkened or dried.

5- The pre-packaged salmon must always be available on refrigerated shelves at a temperature ranging from 0 °C to 4 °C maximum.

6- Do not buy salmon that’s in a package showing internal droplets as this is a sign of poor preservation.

7- Do not buy salmon that’s in a package that seems soft or poorly sealed.

8- Finally, be careful and check the expiry date of the salmon you’re buying.
